Society Today...

You know, it makes me so upset to hear about all of the racism that is still alive and kicking in America! You would think that will all the equality movements for equal rights this, and we want to be treated better that, that you would be able to walk somewhere or go do a certain activity without having to worry about someone saying something about you either to your face, or finding out about what they have said about you from someone else.

I had to deal with this a great deal when I was growing up, because I was never skinny, I wasn't popular, I wasn't and still am not the best looking guy around. For that fact people thought that they had some unspoken right to make my jr. high years a living hell! There were some times when I would come home from school, and not feel like doing anything with my life because, what was the point? I was nothing to anyone! I didn't have a place to fall into. I wasn't in with the popular kids, I didn't play sports, I wasn't anything special. All I was, was another face, and spot to fill up.

That ALL changed when I got into high school. I still wasn't anyone special, but I had a solid group of friends, I had my marching band! I was someone important, because my section relied on me for one reason or another. You still had the cliques that thought that they were so important, and that everything they said was some form of gospel doctrine! But to tell you the truth, there are so many people that I had to put up with in high school, that I honestly don't mind if I ever see them ever again, as harsh as that sounds.

THEN, you get here to college, where none of the typical high school stereotypes even matter. You make friends with people that you never would have in high school. Well I know that's the case for me, I don't know about anyone else! Like my roommate Brad, I know for a sure fact that I never would have talked to him in high school for one reason or another, but we're tight now! You make some of the most sincere and lasting friendships here at school. Everyone is in the same boat as you, and they all understand for the most part what you are going through! I love it, and wouldn't trade anything that I have done here for anything! I love the friends I've made here, you know who you are, and you know that you are important to me. I love you all!!

Sincerely,
Tyler Anderson Smuin
